Financial support
Get help managing your payments
We understand that sometimes things happen which make it difficult to keep on top of payments.
If you’re struggling to pay for your insurance this month, please take a look at the options on this page. They can help you manage your payments and keep your insurance cover active.
If none of these options are appropriate, please still
contact us, so we can discuss other ways of helping you. Getting in touch and finding out more will not affect your credit record.
Who is this page for?
This page is for anyone who:
- Thinks they might miss a payment.
- Has already missed a payment.
How we can support if you’re struggling with payments
Here are some options to consider if you think you might miss a payment or have already received a default notification from us. Have a think about which solution might be best for your circumstances and follow the links within this page to notify us of the change you have chosen.
Check your cover level and your details.
Visit MyAccount to make sure your cover suits your needs and that you’re not paying for unnecessary extras.
For example, you may be able to reduce the size of your monthly payments by changing cover tiers or levels, increasing your excess, or by removing additional add-ons.
Please note, it is important to make sure that you always have enough insurance. Underinsuring can have significant impact on what you will receive if you need to make a claim.
Also, check all the details we have for you are accurate and up to date as this could have an impact on your premium.
These may include:
- if you have any named drivers on your car insurance policy who no longer drive your vehicle;
or
- if you have children recorded as living with you for your home insurance policy but they have moved out.
Please note, it is important that you make sure that the information you tell us is correct. If you don’t give full and correct information, this could have an impact on what you will receive if you need to make a claim. It could also mean we cancel your policy.
Change your Direct Debit details.
If you need your Direct Debit to be taken from a different account, you can update this information in MyAccount.
You need to tell us about the change at least 12 days before your next payment. If you tell us later, the change might not take effect until the following payment. For further support in this situation, please contact us to discuss your other options.
Payment by Card
If a Direct Debit payment fails, you can still pay by card. You can do this by logging into MyAccount. We will not charge you if your direct debit fails, however you might incur charges from your bank.
If you have already missed your direct debit payments and you are thinking of using a credit card to pay the overdue amount, this could mean that you are transferring debt from one loan to another. This may lead to you paying more in charges from things like interest from your credit card company. If you’re having trouble, and would like independent support with debt, please read the information in the section below.
Payment Deferral
You can postpone up to 3 of your payments during the period you’re covered for (subject to assessing your eligibility).
Please note, the amount deferred will be added to your future instalments. This means that when you start paying again, your monthly instalments will be more expensive. If paying more later will be hard for you, payment deferral might not be the right choice.
When you defer a payment, your credit record will be updated to reflect the higher monthly repayment for the remainder of your policy term. No additional markers will be applied.
How do I apply for a payment deferral?
Please follow this link to complete a Payment deferral request.
This will direct you to a summary page which sets out some important information which you should review before applying.
